Our “Meet the Partners” interview series continues, introducing the people and organisations contributing to the TWINGHY project and sharing their expertise in the transition towards more sustainable steel production.

In this episode, Imanol Bilbao from Fives Spain presents the role of Fives and its contribution to the development and industrial implementation of hydrogen-ready combustion technologies for steel reheating furnaces.

As a specialist in industrial furnace engineering and combustion technologies, Fives is responsible for the development and integration of eight hybrid burners at CELSA 3’s reheating furnace in Barcelona. Designed to operate with natural gas and hydrogen, these burners are a key component of the project’s technological demonstration.

The installation of the new burners represents an important milestone, moving the project from technological development towards industrial validation. Their integration into an existing production facility will allow the consortium to assess the performance of hydrogen-based combustion under real operating conditions, while addressing challenges related to process efficiency, operational reliability and steel quality.
