Empowering Young Researchers: Twinghy at the VDEh Steel Day 2025

On 22 May 2025, the Steel Institute VDEh organized the “VDEh Steel Day” in Hattingen (Germany). One of the VDEh’s key objectives is to bring the steel community together by organising metallurgical conferences, technical meetings, and other scientific events.

This event took place at the LWL Industrial Museum Henrichshütte, a unique venue situated within a former steelwork that is now an industrial heritage museum reflecting the history of steelmaking.

Four colleagues from RWTH Aachen University participated in the Young Researchers Forum, dedicated to showcasing emerging talent in steel industry research. Johannes Losacker   presented the Twinghy project during a 4 minute speed-presenting session, which sparked lively discussions, mainly with R&D experts from steel producers and equipment suppliers, on the use of hydrogen in steel reheating furnaces.

We are proud to have Johannes as part of the Twinghy project team, representing the next generation of researchers who drive innovation and support the decarbonisation of the steel industry.
